Frequently asked questions.
What are the main goals of the program?
ShoreStrong Summer Programs focuses on the importance of wellness, fitness, nutrition, and overall mental and physical health. Our goals are to encourage healthy habits among young women to improve their overall wellbeing and help them to grow as a group of confident young adults.
Where do the girls stay?
Our program is located in Ocean City, NJ, where the girls will stay on the top floor of a duplex with 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a kitchen, a living room, and a large deck! There will be two girls in a room, each room with two twin beds and plenty of space. To learn more about the city of Ocean City, NJ (aka America’s Greatest Family Resort), visit the Location page.
How many girls will there be in each session?
Each session will be open to six girls! This allows us to bond as a small group and work not only on personal growth, but team-building and collaboration as well. We encourage the girls to bond and create deep friendships throughout each session as they work toward healthier habits and happier teenage years!
What is the local/day program?
Are you an Ocean City or Atlantic County local looking to learn about health and wellness without the overnight commitment? We encourage you to join us in our day program, where you will join the rest of the girls in all day-time meals and activities, arriving each morning and staying through dinner. This ensures that all girls will still experience the full range of our wellness, fitness, and nutrition activities, including learning healthy meal preparation techniques while cooking dinner each evening. For more information, please contact us at director@shorestrongsummer.com to learn more!
How many staff members are there?
There will be three adult staff members working each session, each specializing in different areas and activities. In addition, we will have several guest speakers, fitness instructors, and others running exciting activities, each of whom are well-educated and qualified to work with teens. To learn more about our full-time staff, such as our Director, Assistant Director, and Wellness Advocate, visit the Meet Our Staff page.
What are some examples of activities the girls will do?
Educational activities include nutrition classes, meal prep and recipe-making, group cardio and strength classes, journaling, yoga, and guest speakers focusing on confidence, body positivity, and more!
Other exciting activities include beach days (as we are only a 10-minute walk from the beach!), shuffle-board, beach volleyball, amusement park rides on the boardwalk, mini golf, movie nights, and karaoke nights!
What will meals look like?
As a Dietetic Intern specializing in Women’s Health and Nutrition, our Director, Alexa, ensures that all meals are well-balanced, nutritious, enjoyable, and non-restrictive. Sample breakfasts may include: scrambled eggs, turkey sausage links, toast, assorted fruit, and yogurt. Lunches and dinners will always include plenty of vegetables, a main protein source (vegan/vegetarian options available as well), and a main carb source. Sample lunch may include: turkey burgers with sweet potato fries and salad or grilled chicken with rice, broccoli, and salad. The girls will assist will cooking dinners everyday in order to teach them how to prepare nutritious and delicious meals for themselves. We also make sure to have fun with cooking dinners by including “build-your-own pizza” on Friday nights and “build-your-own hoagies” for Sunday sunset picnics on the bay!
